About the Game

Ghost Snap x Junji Ito Game Overview

In the Junji Ito Edition of Ghost Snap, you and a partner will take on the roles of reporter and photographer to uncover the truth behind some rumored strange phenomena in Kurozu Town. If you attempt to keep your anxiety hidden, it will build up, resulting in a “screaming outbreak” that diminishes your courage to continue. Manage your anxiety by admitting when you’re scared, and align your hand with your partner to take lots of pictures around the town! Below is a brief overview of the game. More detailed rules can be found in the rulebook included with your purchase.

Goal of the Game:
The goal of the game is to take as many photos of creepy phenomena around Kurōzu town as possible. Some photos will capture bizarre phenomena (1 point), while others will be perfectly normal (0 points). Because film takes time to develop, players will not know until the end of the game whether or not they successfully captured enough phenomena to reach the victory threshold of 10 points (photo cards that are successfully taken are drawn face down from the photo deck).

Turns and Anxiety Buildup:
Players will take turns either playing cards (and resolving their effects) or showing care for their partner (allowing them to change their status from “Calm” to “Scared” or vice-versa), then drawing cards based on how many they have in their hand. Some cards will allow players to take photos, some enable players to trade cards, while others, like “Anxiety” are important to get rid of. If “Anxiety” cards pass a certain threshold, players lose courage (similar to health in this game) and come one step closer to losing the game. Each time the deck runs out, an additional “Anxiety” card is added, imposing a greater sense of urgency the longer the game goes on.

End of the Game:
The game can end in several ways:

  • If one of the players runs out of “Courage Cards,” the game ends in an immediate player loss.

  • If the deck runs out and there are no more anxiety cards left in the anxiety deck, the game ends. Players will then calculate their points by revealing the photo cards they were able to take. If the players were able to get 10 or more “Capture” cards, they win. If not, it is a player loss.

  • If the players manage to take every photo in the photo deck, they win in a complete victory!
