About the Game

Bahamut Dispute Game Overview

In Bahamut Dispute, you will battle with a wizard from a neighboring kingdom to try and prevent them from summoning the legendary Baleful Bahamut. In order to do so, you will need to defeat them in magical combat using a wide variety of spells and actions in creative combinations. Below is a general overview of the game. More detailed rules can be found in the rulebook.

Game Setup:
Lay out the cards and tokens as depicted above—each player receives 4 life tokens (hearts), 2 Necro-nope-icon tokens (blue), as well as 5 cards. The rest of the cards are placed in the center as the deck, with a space allocated for a discard pile.

On Your Turn: Aside from the very first turn (where the starting player can’t draw any cards and can only play one card), there are three basic phases to a turn. Once these are completed, the next player starts again from the drawing phase.

  1. Draw a card.

  2. Play up to 2 cards.

  3. Discard until you have 5 or fewer cards in your hand.

Examples of Card Effects:
Cards have a variety of interesting effects that can totally change the flow of the game. For example, if someone played the card Baby Bahamut to deal 1 damage to their opponent at the start of their next turn, their opponent could then in theory play Pawn Begone! followed by Archival Revival to automatically bring Baby Bahamut back on their own side of the field—these sorts of duel-esque plays are the essence of the game!

The Power of Necro-nope-icons: Understanding the rules, certain combinations of items might appear game-breakingly strong. For example, the above combination could theoretically allow someone to defeat their opponent in one turn if they just reuse the Stabber Dagger they retrieve from the discard pile—that’s where the Necro-nope-icons come in. These tokens allow the user to instantly cancel the effects of and discard their opponent’s played card. Players will need to carefully consider how to bait out their opponent’s Necro-nope-icons while keeping theirs around for emergencies.

Once a player runs out of life tokens, it’s game over!
