Yokai 1504 Game Overview

In Yokai 1504, players will summon yokai, attach and release spirit soul tokens, and utilize spells (either as-is or as traps!) to defeat the other player. Because both decks are the same, players will need to consider the relationship between their remaining cards and their opponent's carefully. Below is a brief overview of the game. More detailed rules can be found in the rulebook.

Main Phase:
The first phase of your turn is the Main Phase. At the beginning of your Main Phase, draw a card from your deck. Then, you can perform a number of actions in any combination you like, with a few limitations. Certain actions, marked below with *, can only be done a combined total of 2 times on your turn.

・Play a Card*
Play either a yokai card from your hand (placing it on your field in the process), or a spell card, immediately activating its effect, then placing it in your graveyard.
・Evoke a Soul*
Place a Spirit Soul Token on one of the yokai in your field. (This increases their attack power, though each yokai has an upper limit on how many tokens they can possess.)
・Use a Release Effect
Remove a Spirit Soul Token from one of your yokai to activate a powerful ability.
・Set a Spell Trap
Place one of your spell cards facedown next to you. This can be used on your opponent's turn if they try to attack you, essentially acting as a trap. Only one card can be placed as a trap at a time!

Battle Phase:
During the Battle Phase, you may optionally attack your opponent with one of your yokai. You'll choose who to attack with and the target. At this point, your opponent may choose to use their set spell trap card. Pay careful attention to which spells they've already played! After the spell is resolved/not used, the attack proceeds (unless the attacking yokai was destroyed).

When attacking an opposing yokai, the yokai with the greater attack power wins, with the loser being destroyed. The losing player takes damage equal to the difference between the attack powers of the two yokai.

When attacking an opponent directly (if they no yokai summoned to defend themselves), the opponent takes damage equal to the attack power of the attacking yokai.

End of the Game:
The game ends when a player's health reaches 0 or neither player can deal damage to each other anymore. The surviving player (or player with more health remaining) is the winner of the duel!
